YouTube Video Editor Tool: A How To

YouTube Video Editor Tool

I am a title rep for a national title insurance company based in Phoenix, Arizona. I help my clients leverage technology and social media to get more business. One of the ways I do this is with video. Using video in real estate is not the future, it is the present. Given a choice between reading an article or watching a video about it, I am going to go out on a limb and say 85% would choose video. I know I would. It’s because of this that most buyers and sellers will look for video. It used to be that video was only available through big expensive virtual tour companies, but that has now changed. In fact, as a Realtor, you can and hopefully already are making your own videos of your listings. Just my opinion, but unless you need a video tour of a multi million dollar listing, a normal flip Mino HD camera, Kodak Zi8 or even the iPhone 4 should work just fine.

I have been teaching Realtors how to use social media tools for a few years now, one of my favorites is YouTube. Youtube is the second largest search engine in the world behind Google. You can upload a video to your own personal Youtube channel in a matter of minutes after choosing your tags, description and keywords. Keep your video at 10 minutes or shorter and you are good to go. In the youtube class I teach, one of the complaints I routinely hear is the cost of editing software. Some of the agents that attend my classes are new to real estate and therefor may not have a laptop computer or the editing software needed to make a quality video. No matter how good you are, there will certainly need to be some editing before your video is complete. As a MAC user, I choose iMovie or Camtasia depending on my needs but as of June there is another option. And its FREE!

In June 2010, Youtube launched its Video Editor. The video editor will allow you to edit your videos, add transitions etc.. You can access the editor by clicking HERE. The short video below will demonstrate how to YouTube’s Editor Tool, and edit your videos.

Enjoy!

So, how did this video phenomenon get started? In February 2005 when the founders registered a domain name called YouTube.com.  The very first 19 second video was uploaded on April 23, 2005 while the site was still in beta.  Then in December – just 10 months since inception – the official site-YouTube.com was launched and 8 million videos were watched a day!

Then the big acquisition came – Google buys YouTube for $1.65 billion dollars.   By this time over 100 million video views were being seen every day, and over 65,000 videos a day are being uploaded to YouTube.  By end of 2008 – 15 hours of videos are uploaded every minute!

In 2009 YouTube explodes in popularity when the US Congress, the U.S. President, the Vatican, as well as TV Shows & movies all start their own channels and uploading videos.  By May of that year 20 hours of videos are uploaded every minute…  and by October YouTube hit 1 billion views per day.

So here we are in May 2010 and YouTube has officially exceeded 2 billion views per day…  And they’re up to 24 hours of videos being uploaded every minute…

Does this get this your attention yet about the importance of videos?  It sure does mine.  Just thought you might like to know…

Is There Video In Your Marketing Future?

Will our kids know how to read?

It sounds funny but I’m serious. Will they?

When I was a child, I had excellent handwriting.  I had to.  Handwriting was really the only way to communicate other that talking. (there were no computers, at least not the kind that I am using and you are reading this on).

I’ve noticed over the years that my handwriting gets worse and worse. I’m embarrassed to say I often can’t read my own writing.

Why?

Because I’m always typing on this darn computer! Who hand writes anything anymore?

Not me.

I’ve noticed another thing too….

I can’t spell the way I used to. I used to be a great speller in elementary and middle school.  My parents have awards to prove it.

Why?

Spell check on this darn computer!  There really is no reason to attempt to spell things the way I was taught when I was a child, the spell check will catch it…no worries!

So…why am I worried that my kids won’t know how to read?

Video.

Most people are aware that Google is the #1 search engine in the world. But did you know that Youtube is #2?

Why go through the hassle of reading anything if you can watch the video? It’s natural to want the easy way. Why read the whole  book, Remember cliffsnotes?

If a picture says 1000 words, what does a video say?

What does any of this have to do with real estate?

Maybe nothing. But maybe everything.

Do you think buyers would prefer to read about a geographic area of town or watch a video about it?  Which would you prefer?

If the answer is “a video”, then let me ask you this….

Are you using Video in your marketing? If not, lets talk.
